A Knowledge Organiser created for GCSE Media Sudies (Eduqas) covering some key media theories (including all ‘set’ Eduqas theories) related to: Audience, Media Language, Representations, Media Industry.
A lesson focusing on breaking down Neale’s Genre theory and analysing key sequences from Scream and American Sniper (although any film products could be used). This is a set theory for Eduqas A Level media and this lesson is taught in line with this particular specification, but it is relevant to all study of film!
A two hour lesson which introduces and explores Judith Butler’s gender performance theory. This is a set theory for Eduqas A Level media but relevant to all study of media representations. The lessons focuses on The Jinx but these could be replaced with any relevant media product.
A full scheme of work of between 5-7 lessons on Tide for Component 1 Section A and B of the Eduqas A Level Media exam. Lesson cover: media language, representations, audience and look at and break down relevant theories (Van Zoonen, Gerbner, Stuart Hall, David Gauntlett).
Also included is an assessment which is a comparison exam question (similar to SAMS so this mark scheme can be used) comparing Tide with a 1950s Quality Street advert.
A two hour lesson which introduces and explores the feminist theory bell hooks. This is a set theory for Eduqas A Level media but relevant to all study of media representations. The lessons focuses on: Time Magazine, Beyonce’s Formation and The Jinx but these could be replaced with any relevant media products.
Three lessons (taught as a 2 hour double and then single lesson) on the representations in the WaterAid ‘Claudia Sings’ advert for Component 1 Section A of the Eduqas A Level Media exam. Lessons cover: all representations and reps theories including a lesson which breaks down and analysis bll hooks theory in relation to WaterAid.
A full scheme of work of approx. 4/5 lessons on Component 1 Section B for Eduqas GCSE Media. These lessons cover all areas of the framework: contexts, audience, industry and exam questions, including some which are NOT SAMS (the SAMS mark scheme can be followed/adapted and used for these though) there is also a lesson which explores how to approach the ‘stepped’ questions in section B and gives advice on timing and command words. Also included is a full episode of The Archers during which the character Helen attempts to leave her husband Rob and subsequently stabs him - lessons make reference to this episode.
Lessons also make use of the Eduqas GCSE textbook and The Archers ‘fact sheet’.
EDUQAS A LEVEL MEDIA STUDIES
A range of lessons on music videos focusing on Vance Joy’s Riptide for A Level Eduqas Media Studies component 1 section A. The lessons are hour long lessons and cover: genre, narrative, media language, representations and relevant theory as well as practice exam questions (SAMS mark schemes can be adapted and used here). This also makes use of the Eduqas A Level Media text book and focuses on the wider music industry and wider products.
A detailed range of lessons on Luther and TV crime drama for Eduqas GCSE media studies. These lessons cover the whole Eduqas specification: media language, genre and narrative, representations, industry, audience, contexts and exam practice. This makes use of wider TV crime drama texts and the Eduqas textbook.
A complete lesson focusing on how to successfully answer Q2a on Paper one of EDUQAS GCSE MEDIA. This lesson mainly focuses on Quality Street and explores relevant historical context, but also includes an example answer (from a student) based on This Girl Can. The lesson can be easily adapted to focus on any of the set products for Paper 1 Section A.
A lesson which introduces the concept of Media Representations and stereotypes in relation to gender in print based media. The lessons explores typical stereotypes of men/women and examines the use of these on a wide range of print based adverts but modern and historic.
A complete lesson covering magazine codes and conventions and media language on GQ Magazine (August 2019 edition) for Paper 1 of Eduqas GCSE Media Studies.
A detailed and comprehensive multi week scheme of work on music videos focusing on Formation for A Level Eduqas Media Studies component 1 section A. All elements of the theoretical framework are covered as well as practice exam questions based on SAMS material.
